Gibson Dual Exhaust - Questions for current owners
#13
This is just my opinion....it is not meant to offend anyone or what they have added to their JK (I've pissed enough people off already).
Some people may have had better/worse experiences but these are mine.
Gibson pros:
-Good price ($300)
-Easy install
-Seemingly more torque when I towed
-Fairly durable with some attention given to rust spots
Gibson cons:
-Hangers were not welded centered and it hung cock-eyed
-Too loud for the mini-van motor
-Terrible drone at highway speed (6th gear saves gas...running in 5th to minimize noise is not a compromise I liked)
-Designed to hang at an angle and "spagetti plumbing" looked busy from rear
-Stainless tips (2) turned two different colors after about a week (looked odd)
Banks pros:
-Replaces pluming to the Y-pipe
-Virtually hidden and parallel from the rear
-Muffler looks to be "good" stainless steel that has yet to rust
-Seemingly more torque
-Easy smooth exhaust tone
-Exhaust doesn't burp when reving the engine
-Easy install
Banks cons:
-More expensive ($450)
-Chrome turn-down tip sticks out too far (left mine off to mimic the stock appearance)
-Clamps that connect the exhaust plumbing rust (I swapped mine out for better quality)
I will also point out that the Banks sounds better when using my AIRAID CAI.
The roar of the intake seems to balance out the noticeable sound from the exhaust.
My JK stays in my garage, so I can't objectively speak for weather durability.
Hope that helps.

I installed a Gibson aluminized system on my Chevy Z71. Loved the MPG improvement, Loved the sound, Hated the final outcome.
After spending $400 for the exhaust it fell apart in four years!! Totally rusted in fou different locations. Gibson basically said tough shit!! I didn't think aluminum could rust!! ??
When I finally get my JK I will go with the Banks Stainless. A friend of mine has one on his truck! 4 years old and no rust.

I took mine off too. Just not happy with it. Just my taste. It has literally 10 miles on it if you have your heart set on it PM me and I'll work something out with you.

i see some people post that there is a MPG gain and some a loss ....
would this really be due to the exhaust (being that it is the same unit on the same engine)? or could it be a change in driving style?

I have the Gibson Dual. I love the sound, but hate the loss of power in the low end (below 2000 rpm's) I am thinking of switching to a Gibson single.
I have just taken this off and gone back to stock.
