Getting ready to pull the trigger on a RK 2.5 lift but need help with shock selection
Hello all,
I want to thank everyone for making this such a great forum. I've been reading and learning about suspension lifts on this forum and others for a while, and I have a question about Rock Krawlers's Bilstein shock recommendations for their 2.5 suspension lifts.
My jeep is a 2012 2 door Rubicon. The question is this: On the RK website there is a recommendation for a "shorter travel" Bilstein set-up and a "longer travel" Bilstein set-up for the 2.5 lift. I'm trying to decide which one to go with and the specs for the shocks have me a bit confused. Please see the attached image and note that the travel for the front shocks is the same for both recommendations and the travel for the rear shock is actually longer on the "shorter travel" shocks than the "longer travel shocks". Additionally, the short and long front shock recommendations have different part number, but the same amount of travel.....so what is different about them giving different part numbers?
In consideration of the data, it seems that I'm either overlooking something or confused about the concepts of shock length.
My goal for this lift is for my jeep to retain its road manners and to be used as a hunting vehicle to get me around the forest service roads and wooded areas of the north Georgia mountains with a little more confidence and comfort than I have in my stock set-up. If there is no drawback to the long travel set-up, it seems like it would be the obvious choice, but if I have to sacrifice handling and ride quality to go with the longer travel, I'd rather chose the shorter shock travel. I don't plan on doing a bunch of rock crawling, but it sure would be nice to have the hardware available if needed/wanted.
Thanks in advance for your time and help. This is my first post, and I apologize if this a dumb question or has been covered somewhere previously. I scoured the web and couldn't find anything specific.

I have not look on their web site, but it might be that the long travel shock is for the long arm lift and the sort travel shock for the mid arm lift. Just give them a call or any of the vendors on here that sells them.
Hope this help you.

2.5 rk, stock control arms, Bilsteins for 4" up front and 2" rear. EVO rockstars, 1.25" body lift. Trimmed fenders and pinch seams and 37's
Attachment 472216
Attachment 472215
I just removed the body lift yesterday and
it flexes just as good without rubbing still. The one pic shows my jeep with the body lift on top and without on bottom.

The guys over at RK are great and usually available to talk with you. Just give them a call and they will tell you exactly what you need to know. They also have their own shocks, which are worth a look. They will valve them based on your setup. For someone like me with a super light 2-door, that is a nice option.
