What a little tired X can do has no bearing on what is needed with 35's or 37's.

I figured I'd talk with someone who installs ring and pinions in the JKs for a living and in each case they thought that 4.88s was the answer. No offense to anyone, but the advice of two techs that do this for a living holds a lot of weight with me as I'm sure it would with many. Unfortunately it has only added to my confusion.
I've done it for a livin myself over thirty years and I agree with 5.13s.

Maybe he's saying it's criminal to have 3.21s from the factory.

What's criminal about it is that he's going 95mph at only 2800rpm.

If that doesn't illustrate the need for a gear change, I don't know what does.

i've heard from many of you that 5:13 gears are the way to go for a HEAVY 08 Rubicon Automatic.

I agree that the 4:88 are NOT going to get into the proper power range for highway speeds.

Now do I go with Superior Gears or Delux or What MFG. I understand they are ALL mfg overseas,
but they ALL offer a Lifetime Mfg and no labor.

Hope to hear from a lot of you......

Redneck, I've read several of your posts in many related threads I've searched on gears. I thoroughly respect your expertise. I will reiterate a question I've seen unanswered for many, and it is a question I have . . . .

I've unfortunately bought a Sahara (didn't realize how "into" wheeling I'd get). I've currently got a 3.73, needs to be upgraded, no brainer for any setup . . .

I've got 33 12.50s. I know your recommendation on 5.13s for the D44, but what do you recommend for the D30. I'm affraid to go bigger than 4.88 (r/p. . .), and with the 33's I'm curious what you or anyone who wants to chime in thinks.

Same question here. If I plan on staying with 33s for some time would 4:88 be better?

Ok so I finally decided to pay attention to my rpms at 75 mph on my way to drop off my Jeep at Clayton on Thurs. Stock Rubicon auto I was at about 2300 rpms at 75. From what Ive read, I think on here, is 5.38s with 35s will put me at about 2750 rpms. Is this about right? Im getting 5.38s installed so I guess Ill know in about a week. What Im getting at is 450 to 500 rpms doesnt seem so insane as some people say 5.38s are too much. Plus I may eventually go to 37s, thats why I went 5.38.
