Hey Chuck 45,
I just called Absolute Offroad here in Phoenix, AZ and setup an appointment for June 8th to get gears installed. The owner Joe is pushing me towards the 5.38's because I have a 1700 lbs tent trailer that I want to tow on occasion. His shop uses exclusively Yukon gears he said Superior Gears make noise (I don't now). Anyway, the whole job out the down for $1300.00. Does this sound about write? Again thanks for your assistance.

The cost is spot on; it's exactly what I paid for mine and is a fair price. Yukons are reputed to be good gears. If you had a D44 up front I'd say absolutely go with the 5.38's. Has he done 5.38's in a D30 and have they held up? With your trailer and 37's I'm sure they would pull better. My only concern would be pinion strength due to the smaller R&P diameter. If you are unlocked up front and planned on staying that way there would be less load on the gears.
5.38's or 5.13's is your call. I'd really pick his brain on this and hopefully somebody who has run 5.38's in a D30 will chime in.
Either way you'll love the difference gears make. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

I'll for sure let you know how it goes. The owner of Absolute Offroad made mention that his done 5.38's in D30 quite a bit. But I think I will throw up a new post to get some input from anyone running that configuration.
Thanks again.

I was at the OK Auto 4x4 open house today and asking a bunch of questions. I met a couple of techs from AEV and asked them what they run for gears in their 4dr auto JKs. They told me that running 4.88 with the auto was the way to go, regardless of the engine, for 35" tires. So now I am confused once again and given the expense of regearing I don't want to get it wrong. I will be doing a fair amount of highway driving and my main concern with the 5.13s is that the RPMs will be too high at 70/75mph. Can anyone with 4.88 or 5.13 autos provide some insight? If you have specifics on the RPMs you're running at these speeds that would help. I don't want my Jeep screaming at 3000 RPMs at 70/75. I have looked at numerous threads here and elsewhere that point to 5.13, but the advice of the AEV and techs at OK Auto has me questioning whether 4.88 would be more appropriate. Thanks.
I had these same questions and tons of replies. I have an auto with 35's and was going to go 5.13 but was talked into 5.38's and that what I ended up getting. Had them for 3 weeks now and i love it. When i'm going down the highway at 75 my RPM's are running right around 2650.

More power and better fuel economy. What's not to love about it?

I agree with you Chuck 45 I'm excited taking it in June 8th. The sensus though is they don't make the 5.38 for the Dana 30 JK version . SO it looks like 5.13's
