Gear selection

Chris knows much more than me, but my 4.56 gears are great with 315 duratracs. They only measure out to 33.75 inches though.
My logic was I never planned to run anything larger than a 35 on a D30 and my commute is mostly on 70mph highway.
They are perfect for what I have, but I would go 4.88 if I wad running something larger or heavier.

4.88 for off road use. 4.56 for fuel economy road driving. I have 2010 4 dr 6 sod with 35s and 4.88s. First gear is really slow on the road but good power off road. Sometimes I start in 2 nod gear because first feels useless. I red line at like 25 km per hour.

Get superchips My 0-60 is the exact same with my 3.21 gears as it is with my 4.88s 3.21s hit 60 in 2nd gear and the 4.88 needs to be in 3rd so you have one more shit. Off road 4.88s are wicked and on hwy I can pass and go up hill on the hwy in 6th gear. 100kms per hour or 63 mph is 2850 rpm in 6th

Ok so last night... I put on some 35X12.5 15 General Grabber's on 15X10 Pro Comp 152 steel wheels. They weigh in at about 110 pounds EACH! I have a stock(ish) 2010 sport with the 3.21 gears and now my hill pulling power is GONE! It can still cruise great on level ground, but as soon as I hit an incline if the 3.8 is not above 2000 RPM I will loose speed.
Given my intended use of the Jeep, my driving style, and all other factors... I think a re-gear to 4.88 is my best option out of the 3 most comon choices. (4.56 4.88 5.13)
Why... It brings the total gearing slightly lower than stock on the 35's , which gives a little more up hill pull, plus what is a couple hundred RPM in 6th gear in terms of MPG? We drive Jeeps here, not little shit boxes like the prius that tries to get every foot per ounce of gas it can (yet is being beaten by FORD in all aspects) we can deal with a lost 20 miles out of a tank of gas.

2010 4dr Rubi Unl, auto, superships tune, demon coil, 35's , 4:88's great on road and still have good offroad performance - about 70000 miles, more than 1/2 of those miles on 4:88's..
