Default Gear Oil???

My 2011 Rubi will be getting new 5.38 gears put in. Just wondering what break-in gear oil should I use, and should I run a synthetic like Amsoil after the break-in. Thanks for your time!!!

You'll get a bunch of different responses to this, as everyone on board has their own opinion. I used Mobil 1 synthetic after the 500 mile break-in period. Haven't had any issues. The shop uses Lucas dinosaur gear-oil after the re-gear, but I switched to synthetic after 500. I think that if you're used to Amsoil (or any other brand), it should work fine.

Enjoy!

being that you're just gonna dump it after 500 miles, i would just use regular dino gear oil. you can use the more expensive stuff once the break in period is over

Ditto; I used cheap oil as well during the break-in, then switched to Amsoil severe gear

Check the writeup section, WOL has something on it... With the stick covers you fill till it pours out the fill hole... Aftermarket is a bit more tricky.

Thanks for the quick responses. I will use Dino 80w-90 during break in and switch to Amsoil afterwards.

Just double check, but it's 75w-90 that's recommended....
