Default Fuel Tank Position

The first thing I noticed when I looked under my JKU was how far the gas tank hangs down below thw frame. I have a 3" OME extended travel lift to go on and my 34" MTRs came today. The net gain will get the tank 4"s higher, but still the low point of the underside. How much of a problem is the tank when rock crawling? I don't think it will have the clearance that my ZJ has and I was hoping to replace it with this new Rubi. Is a tougher tank skid advisable? Thanks

My gas tank skid looks like I ran over a roadside bomb with it. I could certainly use an upgraded one. We wheel on the rocks pretty well out here, certainly find the limits of a Rubi on 35s, it's "held up" though.

i was just checking out all of the scratches gouges and dents under my jeep while changing the oil the other day and noticed i now have a fairly good sized dent in my tank skid. nothing too extreme but it's there. i also have a noticeable depression in my rock hard engine/tranny/oil pan skid. i did quite a bit of scraping last time i went to Rausch but i didn't know i hit anything THAT hard. oh well, that's what they're there for right?

I figure as long as you have something there you should be ok. And yes there is always aftermarket skid plates.

Get an aftermarket skid before the stock tank and skid get too deformed too easily install an after market skid. There are two types, one completely replaces the stock skid and the other just covers over the stock skid. The stock skid holds the tank in place, so replacing it requires removedl of the tank and reinstalling tank and new skid. I used a RockHard skid that installs over stock skid fairly easy to install. It has held up well lots of deep scratches but no large dents.
