Fuel and Power chip question for 3.8
I am having a Jasper rebuilt 3.8 installed in my 2007 Jk-X it is an automatic and need suggestions...I am just a worn out old Vet and I am curious about better Power and dependable Fuel economy of power chips. I know nothing about them and seek your advice! Thanks for taking your time to read and advise.

Are you talking about the cheap 50 or 60 dollar 'wonder-chips' that promise huge gains, or actual tuners like Superchips Flashpaq? Reading through the reviews, the first are nothing more than a transistor in a plastic case that fakes the fuel/air ratio or something like that. Stay away from them.
Real tuners will give some gains, but you need to decide if the 5-10 extra HP is worth the price tag. (yeah, they claim 25 hp or whatever, but that's way up over 5k rpm...) Some folks on here have stated they saw mpg gains with the mileage tunes, but that was not my experience, at least with the flashpaq and diablosport intune. But on the plus side, they have some other nifty features that might be useful to you, if the performance is somewhat less than you expect.

The 'Tuners' will have a variety of tunes you can choose from. Power gains for various fuel octanes (the number on the gas you choose when you fill up : 85, 87, 91, etc), better mileage, performance when towing, whatever. You plug the unit in by your left knee, go through the screens and select the tune you want to try, and it saves what's in the computer before overwriting it with the new parameters.
There are plenty of threads to search and read through, especially on the superchips flashpaq as it seems to be the most popular one. Read some more opinions on what other people feel about the 'mileage' tunes and decide if it's worth a try. Also read about all the non-tuning features to see if you will use any of them as well.
