FT 3" Ultimate -- Lessons Learned.

So the question is: obviously with a HD spring, my front will come up a little... Is the ride much different (stiffer)... and when going off road, I would think that w/a HD spring, I might not get as much flex... just seems logical (stiffer spring = less flex)... is this the case or is the difference negligable?
-Thanks-

Without the added weight of a heavy duty steel bumper and/or winch, you might find the ride to be stiffer. But, with the added weight, you shouldn't see much if any difference. As far as flex goes, the coils may be stiffer as your logic dictated but it's not enough to affect your flex.... trust me
I've got the AEV bumper up front... so I've probably added a good 100lbs up there... I've probably put at least double that in the back w/my Rock Hard bumper and tire carrier w/hi lift... so the rake hasn't been bad.
I guess I'll just keep this option open in the future if/when I get a winch.

BTW, any idea how much [additional] actual lift you end up w/ between the two springs? Probably has to do w/how much weight you got up there. Somewhere i heard 1-1/2 to 2"... W/the rake I have right now... not really sure I need/want that much extra.

Yeah, it really does depend on how much weight you have up front. Essentially, I think the difference really needs to be looked at in terms of, how little sag you will see.

Rubidonn - I think you have lost close to 1/4" -1/2" of lift due to sag since your rig "appears" to be slightly taller than mine when parked next me.
Just wait til I get my bumpers and you'll look taller again
We need to park them together out on the level parking lot and get a good look.

I always see Front HD springs mentioned because of the weight of a winch and bumper. But what about the rear? Do they make HD spring for the rear? Or is the spring rate already high enough to account for a heavier bumper, tire carrier, bigger spare, posible rack.. etc? I know they already take into account cargo, passengers, possible trailer into the rear equation, but is there still a need for HD rear springs?

Maybe we should get the JK's out of the parking garage and put them in the front lot?!?!

Toyo Open Country M/T 35x15x13.5's on steel wheels w/ 4" backspacing (as pictured in early FT promo shots) will rub under trail conditions. I shimmed the rear bump stops up by about 1/2" on stacks of washers, and this helps tremendously, but they still rub occasionally (maybe this is "normal" but it surprised me)
