I just finished installing an AEV 2.5". I cut an access slot with a box cutter and cut down an allen wrench to keep the shock from turning.

This is the type of wrench you need not a sockets. Make sure they are the ratcheting kind or you will bust your knuckles from taking the wrench on and off the nut. I don't remember what size you need.
I have these wrenches.

The passengers side will only allow you to put that wrench on if you point the wrench to the front of the Jeep, Then when on you cannot turn it at all to tighter the nut. There is just enough room to get the wrench on the nut.

Drivers side was easy

If I remember correctly to remove the stock rubi shocks I just had to hold the nut and spin the whole shock body and it came right out. Still a pia to get a wrench on it. Now when installing my bilstein 5100's this only worked until the nylon in the nut contacted the threads then the whole rod spun. So I cut down and Allen wrench and cut the plastic put an open end wrench on the nut and turned the rod with the Allen wrench. I found this easier than trying to turn a ratcheting or standard open end wrench. I suppose I could have put the ratcheting end on the nut and turned the Allen wrench back and forth...hmmm. Patience is key and wear gloves so u don't bloody your knuckles taking the Allen wrench on and off.
