Default Front D44 pinion

I've read in a few different places that the JK front 44 is a HP D44. Can anyone confirm this? If so how would it affect a 2012+ JK in regards to lift? I've read new models can require new drive shafts sooner than the old models. Will a front rubi help out with this? Thanks in advance for any info.

the front drive shaft on the 2012 and newer has an issue with hitting the exhaust cross over on higher lifts when off road (fully drooped) the angle at the T/C is also pretty steep. Not sure what you mean by a front rubi but if you mean will a D44 from a rubicon be much different then a D30 from a sport? No they have the same issues. I just swapped a new D44 into a buddies 2014 sport and it is plug and play. Drive shaft is 1/2" shorter on the rubicon when mounted but there is plenty of tolerance and the sport DS bolted right in.

Yes a rubi 44. Since its a high pinion axle, I was wondering if it was more forgiving on the DS angles than the 30 post-lift.

The rubi 44 and the standard 30 are both reverse rotation aka high pinion

All 'JK' front D30 and D44 housings are high pinion. Both versions of the D44 rear are low pinion.

They use the same basic housing, with the diff section of the d44 being larger to fit the larger gears. (same length, diameter, wall thickness, C's, etc...)

Ah got it. Didn't know the 30 was a HP as well. Thanks gentlemen.
