I ran my new axle for over two months of in-town driving with no oil spillage. First long freeway trip, oil came pumping out of the breather. So... it was over-filled at the shop, and didn't get hot enough with all of my short in town trips.

Since you haven't had it but a week, my guess is that ran into the same situation. As suggested above, just pull the fill plug and check the level.

That's been my experience too. You need to run 30 or 40 miles at freeway speeds to really get the diff up to temperature.

Okay, so I didn't get to it for a while, been way too busy. Yesterday had front diff oil changed and the shop put the recommended amount in it. It's blowing oil like crazy again. It only seems to do it when at highway speeds. My questions are: Do the high speeds make it come out the overflow tube? The gears have been changed. Is there supposed to be some type of baffle in the diff that keeps it from splashing up and out of the tube? Is there another vent on the front that could be blocked and forcing it to blow out the overfill tube? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Aftermarket diff covers? Did you happen to ask the shop how much they actually put in?

At normal operating temps there should not be enough pressure to push the oil out the vent tube unless its way overfilled. How new are the gears? It sounds to me like they could have been shimmed improperly, causing excessive friction and overheating. That would cause excessive venting and oil overflow. I think it would be worth your time to bring it in to your local gear n driveline shop and have them look it over before you burn up your new gears...

Ahhhh the SMELL of gear oil

You said the gears had been changed, what about the cover? You need to make sure the amount in the diff. is what is called for from the factory.
Check your manual for the recommended amount.

Been there....

and the shop put the recommended amount in it.
So you haven't checked for yourself? Grab a socket wrench and pull the fill plug. If oil comes out, it's too full. If not, stick your finger in, or bend a zip tie or something to see what the level is. Just because the shop says it's good, doesn't mean that it is...
