Default Finally went all the way on the 2012 JKU Rubi! Opinions?

Hi all!

I am super excited. I finally came up with the extra cash to go all the way with my 2012 JKU Rubicon. I had a 2.5" TeraFlex lift and 35" Goodyear Duratracs. I loved it. The only thing was i was getting high-centered too much and rubbing too much. I wanted to upgrade for sometime and finally ordered the 6" TeraFlex long arm kit and 37" Goodyear MTR's W/ Kevlar. How do y'all think it will look? Anything to watch out for? How to y'all like this lift/tires? How much do you think the road manners will be affected? All opinions, positive or negative, are welcome!

Thats a huge lift! I am sure it will look awesome. Have you considered replacing the driveshafts? Gearing for those 37s? Upgrading to stronger axles?

I think you should go with 40's for that size lift.

But, it's your opinion that matters, no one else's! Just remember that when you read the replies...

You should find some pics in this one.

Also, spend a few extra minutes looking at the bracket install to make sure it is done correctly:

Thanks for the replies! To answer a couple questions:

I didn't want to go with 40" tires because

1. I couldn't afford the 40" MTR's with everything else
2. I heard that stock JK components (axles, driveshafts etc.) will wear out ALOT faster with anything larger than 37s, and I can't afford to upgrade those parts anytime soon with everything else
3. I didn't want to have to do a lot of cutting to the body

I am planning everything with time. I want to put 40's on sometime, and upgrade driveshafts and maybe swap the stock Dana 44's for a couple of Dynatrac ProRock 80's. It will all come with time (and money!)

Too tall a lift for 37's IMO. A 3.5 will yield enough clearance for 37's. You will also have to replace drive shafts. Way too much angle on the stockers with a six inch lift

My friend has a 4.5" lift and 37"s on a JKU. Looks good as is. He has 5.13 gears with an automatic. It can go the same places I go with my 2dr with leveling pucks, 19/61 springs, and 315/70R17 Duratracs. 35"s on a 2dr are about the same as 37"s on a 4dr. 4" - 4 1/2" should be good. I get away with not as much lift with Hurricane Flares. I have about 3" from stock.

I ran 34" all terrain tires with a TF "4 inch" lift (actually netted me 5.25") with their 8 flex arms for 6 years. The last 3.5 years of that I lived in Pensacola......I wheeled "backyard", Morris Mtn, Choccolocco, and Hawk Pride. I was fairly happy with that set-up wheeling in those areas and driving the Florida and Alabama highways. High centering was usually not a problem for me. However, because of that wheeling, I broke a front axle u-joint, D30 pinion teeth, and started to bend the inner C's. Depending on the wheeling you plan on, you may need to consider beefing up your front D44.

When you say "rubbing too much," what specifically is rubbing? Running 37's on those AEV wheels, your tires may be rubbing your Jeep a lot more when you turn. You could do wheel spacers or adjust the steering stops.

A little over a year ago, I replaced my 34's with 37" GY MTR's. Road manners decreased. I recently replaced my TF springs with "3.5 inch" springs which dropped my net lift to right at 4". It does handle better on the road which is probably a combination of the springs and getting my control arms a slightly flatter. My belly clearance is still the same, but I have more clearance under the diffs. With your flat fenders and 37's, I don't see any reason to run over a 4" spring.....unless you really want that much more belly clearance.

What are you doing about a front drive shaft? It looks like you are still running stock? Do some research on here about stock front drive shaft clearance and longevity with that much lift. When I did my lift, I replaced my stock shaft with a CV style shaft and fought the battle between drive shaft vibes and flighty steering. A lower lift will help alleviate some of those problems.

Good luck with your build.
