Default Fender Flares to keep me legal..

Howdy folks,

Wondering if anybody running 35" tires has installed fender flares that provide complete tire coverage? Moving to a place with silly laws about this, and most flares I see are stock length; which while they look cool, really just defeat the purpose. I'd rather buy some flares that get the job done vs. shipping my stock wheels and tires and swapping them out every year for inspection..

Thanks!

The Bushwacker flares are about 1.5" wider than stock.

Before you go nuts trying to find extensions, check the laws in the state you're going to. In Illinois for example they allow for the tires to extend 1" outside the vehicle. Even if they stick out a little more I don't think most cops will give you any trouble. However, states that have a lot of 4 wheel events might be a little more strict.

In jersey your tread cannot stick out farther than the edge of the flair/fender. If your sidewall sticks out but your tread doesn't it is fine but if you have a tire that the tread continues down the sidewall you need to cover the entire thing.

I hear in Pennsylvania you cannot add wider flairs. They only allow OEM equipment.

Depending on where you live in Cali, and if the CHP's are in a bad mood, you can get written up if your tires stick out past your fender wells. As far as I know, fender flares will work too. They are just afraid of the bigger tires throwing rocks.

Well, in most european countries we have those stupid laws about flares and they must cover all the tire.

With 35s and wheels that give 4.5 backspacing, flares like Xenon +1,6 or Bushwacker will be enough.

I think that Bestop has even wider flares (+2").

The 1" law is the same in Ohio.

1/4" wheel spacers?! That's incredibly stupid. Wheel spacers that thin are the sandwich type that still use the pre-existing lugs to bolt onto the wheel and are so very dangerous. It would be safer to allow thicker wheel spacers that are manufactured properly.

In this post, on page 2 or 3 I think it shows some ARB fender flare add-on kits.

Not sure if they sell them outside of Oz but it might be worthwhile to check into them if you like the style. It seems like they would be much cheaper than whole new flares.
