Default Fender Flairs; Trim vs. Buy

I have a 2011 JK with stock wide fenders. I like the look of the really skinny ones. My tires are about 1 - 1.2 inches outside of the flares now even with the wide ones. the decision that I am trying to make is should I trim them as I have seen many do or just buy prefab aftermarket fenders?

Chopping is free. If you don't like it, you can always buy replacements.

I agree with scottz. Chop them first before spending the money

I trimmed mine because it looks good and free. I can put that money towards something else. When I run out of doing everything else I want I may replace them then.

Here's a picture. I would put door trim on the edges. It makes it look cleaner

To me, the trimmed fender looks like a dollar saved. If you have the money to spend then do it right and put actual flat fenders on. I agree with the previous post about spending the money where needed. Maybe not the first mod, but definitely if you have the means......

Aftermarket flares are crazy expensive. That;s alot od mods money saved if you trim. I will down the road.

I've seen chopped fenders look awesome and almost look aftermarket. Me ... I just lopped mine and called it a day. I love it. Planned for door trim but never added. Rubbed a couple trees on the trail and pulled out a clip or two but unharmed. Besides the money saved. If you were to damage them they're easily and cheaply replaceable. Some aftermarket flares can actually damage the body if hit direct on.

My vote CHOP EM.

I'll add, my flares were never sanded and there are waves. It's not bad. nobody notices in person and folks always ask about them.

If only going for the LOOK, I would leave them alone. If I NEED them for clearance, MCE flatties get my $$$
