Default Falken Rocky Mountain ATS 2 feedback

Am looking at the Falken Rocky Mountain ATS 2, in 285/70//17. Most (not all) reviews have been good. My big concern is the weight of the tire. The tire weights 62lbs without the rim. I am concerned about the stock spare tire rack. From a previous post of mine, most of you all don't think it would be a problem. What are thoughts on spare tire wight and that particular tire?

Also for those familiar with this tire, what kind of mileage have you gotten with it and how is the tread wear?

The stock Duelers are around 41-42 pounds. Jumping 20 pounds a tire is going to hurt your mileage, no way around it. I've found that the wider the tire, the more it hurts the mileage vs. how tall. The more road contact you have, the more resistance, the more work the engine has to do in order to turn it. (that combined with weight)

I went with a more narrow tire, only 10 pounds heavier, but went from the factor 32.1 up to a manageable 33.2. My fuel mileage didn't change, in fact, high way mileage is better. I won't go taller because of the 3.21 gears. It's a dog past 4th gear as it is. (I have a manual) I'm obviously not re gearing a brand new jeep.

I'd also recommend you take a peak at the Cooper ST Maxx tires. The price is RIGHT and they are in line with a Duratrac, but have a better sidewall. They are quiet and very functional. I'm a MT kind of guy, but if I wanted something in between, i'd totally go ST Maxx. 60K mile tire too and quiet.

I am interested in how many miles you guys have run so far on these tires and how they have held up.

We run 37's ATS in this tire, great wear since i do a 5 tire rotate.I can pick up the spare by myself without help,we have an after market carrier.Getting the same mileage maybe even better if kept under 60.On the downside it's not a great mud tire, works well in snow.

I've read several bad reviews on the Falken AT tires. I've had two sets of their street tires on the wife's Expy and loved them, but their truck tires don't seem to be living up to Falken's reputation.

We've had our's for 2 years now and they are holding better than the BFG's we had before

Not quite what I have seen for the wildpeak/rocky mountain. More like a few negative reviews, buried in about 500 good reviews. And the few negatives seem to be along the lines of: they suck in mud!! (and then in fine print - compared to my old mud tires...). Or, they suck on ice!! (compared to my dedicated winter tires with studs...)

Other than the wimpy looks (compared to my old aggressive mud tires...) I have no complaints with my 37" rocky mountains.

The biggest consistent complaint I hear is their weight. They weigh 62lbs compared to BFG's in the mid 40's.

They are saving weight by making a thinner carcass thus if using offroad it's easier to cut a tire. That's probably the biggest downfall to bfg. All but the krawler cut very easy. Oh and they run small
