Factory Dual Exhuast??

Factory Dual Exhuast??
Ok guys, first post here. Take it easy on me. I was just wondering if anyone has taken the stock muffler and cut a 2.5" hole in the driver's side, put a 90 on it, then took the existing tailpipe and cutting it off and putting another 90 on that side to give the appearance of dual exhaust? I was wondering how this would look and if it would change the sound of the exhaust at all. I figure a (2) 90's and (2) nice looking tips and someone to weld up the stainless and you could have a dual exhaust look pretty cheap. I was at Truckfest at Summit racing a few weeks ago and had the Rugged Ridge guy fire up his dual exhaust setup and it was almost quieter than the stock exhaust. I figure why pay almost $500 for a look when you could do for probably less than $100 with labor. Hell it might even sound good!

You are correct and I have been looking at them. I am actually heading to 4WD Hardware tomorrow for the Jeep Jamboree and want to see one in person. I just don't know if I crazy on some of the things they have done. The tips aren't quite what I am looking for and I am not sure if they have fixed the whole leaning to one side thing that I have seen in the pics. I really like the Rugged Ridge tips and I think Flowmaster makes one very similar.

I have never seen that done. I just welded a Dynomax in place of the resonator and dumped it. I wanted the part number 39522, but it is on backorder. With labor I was at $170. I would think that cutting into your factory muffler might give a strange note. You might look into getting a new muffler on and then having it exit on both sides if that is what you want. I can tell you that if you get the same Dynomax Muffler that comes in the Rock Crawler and dump it before the rear axle, it will be louder than stock. I love mine.

If you plan on wheeling your Jeep... those exhaust tips are going to be damaged goods! I lopped mine off because they were either getting in the way or they would get smashed. You can't even see my tail pipe anymore I cut so much of it off.

You technically have dual exhaust almost halfway back. If you could bend pipes, you could easily lop off where they join, and fab up exhaust. That's my plan

WOW, that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen!!!
As for wheeling, I probably won't be getting into anything serious enough to do damage to the exhaust until it's paid off. So for the time being I want to do something. This is my first Jeep. I am coming from a Toyota Tundra that I had a weld shop do custom dual exhaust on. I may take the JK to them and see what they can do. I always got compliments on how my truck sounded. It was a 2 in 2 out cross flow muffler with 4" tips. Of course the V6 will never have that V8 sound but I need some kind of tone and something that looks good. I may experiment with it and see what happens. If it doesn't sound good, I'll buy something or have it custom made. I was just hoping out there had done this before me.
