Default Fabtech 5" short arm Q&A

ive been looking at lifts now for a few months to upgrade from the TF 2.5", i was dead set on the TF 4"LCG long arm but i realized that im not gonna be doing any serious offroading and the $3000 price tag is hard to justify, i decided to go with the fabtech 5" short arm because of the price (1600) and the fact that i dont need the bells and whistles of a long arm. i was wondering if anybody had any experience with any of their lifts and how they feel. thx guys

if you NOT going to be doing any serious off roading, that is all the more reason why YOU SHOULD spend the $3000 and get a long arm kit. at 5" of lift, your suspension geometry will be WAY OFF and your ON PAVEMENT ride will be crap. long arms are designed to correct your suspension geometry and make them sit flatter and offer a outstanding ride that is most noticiable ON PAVEMENT. please note, what i'm telling you would apply to any brand of lift kit as we are talking about geometry and not brand preference.

would adjusting the control arms and track bars fix the geometry tho

no even close. ideally, you want your control arms and track bars to sit relatively flat. with 5" of lift, your short arms will sit at a steep angle and no amount of adjusting will fix this. also, i should point out that if you decide to keep this kit you ordered, make sure to reinforce your front track bar relocation bracket with some welded on gussets. the fabtec bracket is notorious for causing DW and eventually breaking on the factory mount. i have seen it happen with this kit many times.

OK so if your running stock flare you'll want a 4" for more tire vs. fender clearance. Some customers run a 3" and flat fenders. You can always do a long arm upgrade later on and start with the short arm kit. You only need to change the control arms and brackets.

agreed. i personally prefer running a lower lift even with 37's as it provides a much better COG and still performs well. i ran setup close to 3.5" of lift on our old 2009 JK and it worked out great even with short arms.
