OR-Fab Swing Away Tire Carrier - Question for those of you who have this!!!!!!!
Ok so the multiple exclamation points probably were a bit much, but looking for some help ya'll...
I installed this bad boy last night, but wanted some clarification on a few things as the instructions do not answer my questions:
1) The top holes I figured our are for mounting my high lift jack, correct?
2) If this is correct, what are ya'll using to mount the jack to the carrier? I don't want to simply use a bolt as I am looking for security, does anyone have a good idea for a "locking" connection here? (Pics would be greatly appreciated if available)
3) Which side do you mount the foot of your jack (driver or passenger)? And does the foot/jack then clear the top as it swings out?
4) Are the bottom two holes for mounting gerry cans? I assume so, and if so then OR-Fab must use this hoop standard on both versions (gerry can and no geerry can) and therefore the holes are there regardless of what version, because my version is the latter.
Pics to help illustrate:
Appreciate any and all feedback...

Yours is actually quite different than mine. I have the Rotopax version and it seems the holes are located in different spots. Yes the top two are for the jack, and I would put the foot of it on passenger side to keep the most of the weight toward the hinge and not hanging over. They open out pretty far so you should have no problems with clearance issues. Also, the other holes that you showed are kinda maybe residual from the other versions. But hey if I were you, I would maybe put one of those fold out trail tables on the back if there is enough clearance. Like one of these....

I have the same non-can version, I mounted my jack with the base towards the passenger side. I removed the base plate though, that thing rattled like crazy, and stored it inside. There are no clearance issues since it opens so wide.

Thank you both for your replies. What do you both use for security/bolting of the jack?

Love the American flag "mod"... Gonna have to steal this one from ya!

Appreciate the pics, I have a pad lock on the tire and currently have a pad lock on the latch, but am going to change out the pad lock on the latch to a hitch pin/clevis today as I regularly utilize the back hatch gate and a lock is just too much time wasted to unlock/lock every time.
I like your idea of bungy strap/cord to stop rattle of the foot pad, probably gonna steal that idea from ya.
My only question is:
Are you utilizing any type of security bolt type apparatus for mounting your jack or is it just bolted on?
Nice setup BTW! Thinking I am gonna want to get a jack boot on order!

If you are worried about the HiLift getting stolen, Tuffy makes something. It's $32.00 so kinda expensive to protect a $75 jack
