Default Experience with MBRP spare tire bracket reinforcing kit needed

I'm looking for a place to put my 35" spare, but I'm not ready to buy a new rear bumper yet. Does anyone know if the MBRP reinforcing kits work??? if so how well? will I be able to wheel w/ the tire on the back, or will I have to remove the wheel to avoid destroying my rear door? Vendor input would be nice as well

Also, has anyone made a spare tire carrier that bolts (or is welded) to the stock bumper?

I just installed it about 6 hours ago and I'm only running a 33" on it as of now. It reinforces from the inside, you have to crack off the spot welds on the bolts then install the metal reinforcing brackets making it a ton stronger than it was. I read somewhere on here that MBRP was running a 35 on it for some time with no problems at all. Hopefully they'll be able to answer on this better than I can. I just didnt have the cash for a rear bumper right now and just wanted some peace of mind about the larger/heavier tire being on there all the time.

So these brackets sit behind the stock tire carrier and bolt onto the inside of the rear door? Did you have to drill 4 holes in the door to install the brackets?

I haven't seen a picture of this MBRP bracket but from reading above it doesn't reinforce or share the weight on the stock tailgate hinges....why is it worth buying vs OR-FAB's tailgate carrier ? Cheers

i think the kit is pretty cheap (less than 50) and a tire carier bumper is not. i called them and asked about it. they said it has ben on there jeep for about a year with a 35 and no problems. they said they wheel it alot to0.

I have this kit installed on my jeep until i can get the funds for the bumper I'm after. As said above you remove the factory bolts which are spot welded on and the brackets sit inside the tailgate. The design of it is to evenly distributes the stress of the tires, which makes it a lot stronger.

It does seem to be doing a really good job, I've got a 35 on the back and have not noticed any warping or defects from having an oversized tire.

There's also no drilling required for the kit, and it's a pretty easy install. I don't know if i would use this for a long-term/permanent solution, but if you need some time until you can afford or get your hands on a decent tire carrier this kit works like a charm.

Glad to see you got the tire reinforcement kit installed and it is work as intended for you. I think most of the questions have already been answered in this thread but feel free to shoot me any questions anyone may still have.

Would you say the kit will reinforce the tire carrier enough (with a 35" on it) to do moderate wheeling without removing the spare? have you seen any damage to the rear door hinge from the 35" hanging off it?
