Default EVO Rock Stars - input needed please?

I like the idea, but your lower shock mounts are so tight up against the inside of the rear tires... thus, I question just how useful this mod really is.

I mean, do you guys think it's worth doing this mod for 1.5" of added clearance at a point so close to the tire that the tire is most certainly going up and over the obstacle in question anyway?

I just went from a 32" tire to one that measures 34.25", so I've gained appreciable ground clearance already. Still, pondering the EVO Rock Stars.

Discuss.

If I had a pic of what my lower shock mounts looked like before I painted them you'd see why it's such a useful mod. My shock mounts, lca mounts, and bottom of the shock tube was beat to hell. They hang down way to low in the back. That 1 1/2" of increased ground clearance is like going from 35" tires to 38" tires.

Yeah, I've searched and read through the various threads including the one by WOL, but we're not talking about shaving the bottom of a differenial to increase ground clearance by 1.5" ... that would seem to be a more critical place for ground clearnace than something way out on the edges of the axles, right?

The EVO Rock Star skids were one of the best mods we did. Even running 37's we would get hung up on the shock mounts here and there causing them to get bent all to hell.

I guess if the only rock in the way is the one you are running over then you are good. But if you are coming down off a rock only to find another that is between the tires the shock mounts will make contact.

I can tell you without a doubt that I have a fraction of the issues today that I had in the past with getting hung up on the shock mounts. Now if I getting into them they will grind but I can get loose and do so without destroying the mount.

I highly recommend these because they add practical abilities to the jeep while off-road in clearance and protection.

i have them, but havent off roaded with them yet. i can say that my rear LCA bracket and shock mount were beat to hell and i have only had my rubicon since Oct 09 and off roaded a hand full of times. the install is easy with the right tools and they arent that pricey.

im using the TF 9550 shocks for my 2.5" coil lift and did not need to replace the shocks. if anything, you MAY need bigger bump stops to keep the shock from bottoming out. again, i didnt need to change anything.

It is worth talking to Mel and EVO before you do these. I have the 9550s as well but I have 4" TF lift. DEDDUC has 9550s with a 3" TF and Mel recommended not to use them in his case

So it is best to consult with EVO to cover your exact conditions.

Maybe just easier to build. May of added a little clearance as well. I can't imagine how much stronger you could make them.
