the reason the shelby held together is right there in the link.

255 hp.

the 500 hp was never tested.

see all that forged stuff and intake/heads etc. for 255 hp? 50 more than the 3.8

Try to find all that stuff today for a 3.8 for less than a good hemi.
Wrong, the 500 was tested, the org for that whole class of racing was discontinued in the US, moved to Africa I believe. The whole class just did not take off.

As to finding the racing stuff today (shelby) it is all available used, and way less than a hemi, but it is for a 3.3, which as I recall was said to be the same bottom end as the 3.8, maybe by the guy who said he was done with the convo?

Now go do some more net digging and goggling, find out how our engines came to be, what Chisler said the basis for them was, then check the physical specs of the engine you said never existed. You know, little things like bore and stroke?

Yeah, got my boots on knowing its gonna get deeper.

I understand your quest to build power with the 3.8 and not drop cash on the hemi. However, IMO this should go back to engine building 101. Regardless of the engine there are basic facts that can be applied. The CHEAPEST power adder dollar for dollar is either Forced induction(turbo or sc) or nitrous 99.5% of the time when you are working with an otherwise stock engine. (I really dont believe nitrous is a practical power adder for a jeep but did want to mention it.)

granted the SC on the market now is pricey but have you added up the costs of porting and polishing heads, grinding cams, etc? And that is not even concidering the fact that it could take several builds to get the power and results you want. There are no baselines to start from when doing work like this so it is all trial and error. All that work has been done for you with the Supercharger.

Secondly, why not a custom turbo setup? Still have that custom one-off style and all the attributes of the SC without the huge upfront cost. you could build it slowly as money allowed. Not to mention the huge power gains to be had with a properly build and tuned turbocharged system and no parasitic power loss associated with the SC.

These are just my thoughts. I am all for building the 3.8 but why frown on forced induction unless there is some reason for staying NA like bracket racing??
