Winch! You can use it to hang pinatas; raise your Christmas tree; tie something fuzzy to it and play with your cat; move your friends car after they parked it; impress mall crawlers; oh, and pull your jeep out of a ditch when your brother-in-law drives it for the first time. We got pulled out by a 2500lb winch on an ATV and it took 2 minutes.

My thoughts are its kinda like a gun, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, besides may need to pull someone else sometime.

Alright.... Seems pretty convincing. I'l get the winch mount bumper and plan on getting the winch at a later date.

Winch all the way. You will never know when you need it. It's best to have it just for added insurance.

Default Hitch Winch?

I am in the same boat as the OP. I cant afford new bumper and winch and then my father recommended mounting a winch to a plate that would attach into the hitch. Also if this works can I mount a hitch to the front with stock bumper. Is this a good idea?

You can, there are many people on this forum that do so.... I can't afford a new bumper and winch so I went with winch and winch plate for the factory bumper. If I'm not mistaken the hitch is mounted to bumper but involves cutting the air dam to do so... Some people also believe your better off with winch being as low as possible ( below bumper ) for winching purposes.....

You know, as much as everyone on here says to get the electric winch, I just don't see anyone giving any real reasons why the same thing couldn't be accomplished (albeit with a lot of muscle power) with a hand winch. Why is an electric winch better?

^^this, a winch is a good investment if you plan on doing any wheeling, never know what can happen.
