Default Easy tire question

If a tire has an estimated sectional width of 12.5" on the manufacturers recommended rim width of 8 - 9". If I try and run the tire on the factory 7" wheels will it reduce the sectional width down from 12.5" to say possibly 12"?

Probably not. I run a set of 35X12.5R17's and a set of 315/70?R17's, both on factory Rubi wheels. No issues so far....but I've never measured the width.
