Default E-Lockers and axle questions

Hey guys,

I'm planning out my buildup and had a couple of questions about the axles and Eaton's E-Lockers. First, I didn't see an application for the stock dana 30 front axle, but there are some for older model dana 30 axles. Can I swap out the axleshafts for a spline count that they make the lockers for?

Also, I've read some concerns on here that people have about the Eaton E-Lockers and tires larger than stock. What's the consensus about that?

And on a completely unrelated note, are auto transmission coolers required with 35s? What about about 37s? Still trying to decide which route to go....

Thanks!
Micah

It's possible to overheat the auto tranny, even with a stock Jeep. An aux cooler will not hurt, and most likely will prove beneficial.

(I, too, am a Calvin and Hobbs fan!)

+1 on the trans cooler for an auto. It will not only keep your Jeep shifting better but will add years to the life of your transmission if you do any wheeling, towing or touring at all. Should also reduce maintenance in theory, because your trans fluid change intervals will be at their best (the fluid is not getting overheated or burnt).

as far as the axles go, you should have no problem finding an e-locker for the stock d30 even if you have to change splines as upgrading axles are recommended as well. bigger tires make it easier to wheel but easier to break shit

I have an 07 X with front and rear Eaton lockers. I had then installed a year ago and no problems what so ever, I am running 33 MTZ not 35's but I give it hell on the rocks and trails. There was a write up in the JP mag last month about how great the Eaton lockers are and better than the MFG lockers. Lockers and install cost me $1200 each well worth it. The best part is you can lock one or the other or both.

Good luck!

I have the E-locker up front. And right now I have a Alloy USA shaft of the drivers side and the OEM shaft on the passenger side. So that's not a problem. I only have 33's. The only thing that has broken was a u-joint which killed the outer shaft on the passenger side.
