Dynomax Rock Crawler Cat-Back Exhaust Installed on 2013 Unlimited (video)
Some of you may have seen the recent thread I posted about the Dynomax VT cat back install I did, or maybe not since no one posted in it except Dynomax
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/modi...-video-277523/
I ended up ordering the Rock Crawler system as well, and when it came in I installed it during my lunch break one day (only took about 30 minutes since I was familiar with the process already) and set the VT system aside.
Installation overall went well, I did however have a bit of an issue with the tip fitting onto the end of the exhaust.
I broke one of the bolts trying to tighten it on because it was already about as tight as it could go, but it was still loose.
My mistake was that I was pushing the tip too far back, when I pulled it out some, it was able to be tightened a bit easier without being loose, however it does stick out a couple inches more than the VT tip did.
On top of that it sits right next to the rear recovery hook. I have a hitch eye so its not a huge deal, but maybe I can relocate it the the other side or something, that's a later project.
At idle it almost sounds similar to the VT system, except a bit lower, and when the idle levels out (about 20 seconds after start, see video) it sounds really nice.
I can feel this one a bit more through the Jeep, unlike the VT system, but only really when I hammer down the pedal.
And when the pedal is hammered down, boy does it make noise.
Oddly enough, it's not as loud inside the cab as you would think, and when cruising it damn near almost goes away.
I took it on the highway yesterday and at 72mph it was great, no drone, and barely noticeable although a bit louder that stock.
Most of the video footage of me driving is with throttle down, perhaps over the weekend i'll shoot some video on the highway and at speed going about 40.
As I said before, although the video may make it sound loud, it really isn't THAT loud when inside the cab, the system does a nice job of keeping out the bulk of it.
Here is the video I shot today, with ONLY the Rock Crawler system installed...

And again, here is the video with the stock, and VT system, to compare...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=134vSwMlPsg Now, to be fair, I think the VT system can be a good system on certain applications, but just not on these Jeeps, they were made for the Rock Crawler system hands down IMO.
Time to set up a return for the VT!
Feel free to post any questions or request videos.

I'm not so sure anyone can ever really "notice" more throttle response when swapping out the exhaust system on these Jeeps, but it sure does make it easier to hear and feel when you are in the power band, so in a way it makes it feel like i have more throttle response, yes.

Well I ended up taking this system off too and going back to stock.
I really liked the rock crawler system but on the highway when going over about 67MPH there is just enough of a slight drone that it gives my wife a headache.
We take 4-6 hour drives back to Michigan from Chicago on a regular basis, so that's a deal breaker for me.
As I posted in another thread, I have a 5 speed auto, and I'm almost positive that this is a non-issue on the 6 speeds.
Does anyone else have this system on a 3.6 unlimited auto?
Dynomax, if you are watching this thread, any suggestions on ways to get rid of that drone at over 67mph?
I really wan't to keep this system and not have to send it back with the VT one as well.
I know nothing about the dynamics and whatnot of an exhaust, but I tried using a turn down tip instead of the straight one that came with it to see it if helped, but it didn't.
