So P/N 17230 is a fully welded muffler. It is a round style that is 21" over all 2.5" In/Out
The P/N 17263 is a "spun" style muffler. It is a round that is 20" over all 2.5" In/Out.
This is the muffler we use in our "rock crawler" and our Evolution Competition System.
Hope that helps!

Is there a difference in performance or sound though? Such as one being louder than the other, better flow than the other, or is it just looks different?

The difference in sound will be minimal, with the Polished Stainless Steel being a bit quieter.
Performance both are comparable.
Similar flow.
A lot of the muscle//hot rod crowd use the fully welded style.
The P/N 17263 is a perfect fit for a JK.

So if i buy just this muffler pn 17263, this is compatible with the rest of the stock exhaust and is a direct replacement for the stock muffler? Nothing else needed? Thanks!

Not exactly. What a lot of people do is buy this muffler and do a DIY of one of our popular system(s). It is the same diameter as the stock exhaust tubing. So people will cut off the stock system, clamp this muffler in and go.

Our "rock crawler" system
Dynomax® Performance Exhaust | Exhaust Systems | 2011-2007 JEEP Wrangler Unlimited (4 Door) w/3.8L - high clearance off-road "Rockcrawler" design: Single - 2.5" system. 3" tip. Ultra Flo Polished Muffler
or the Evolution Competition System
Dynomax® Performance Exhaust | 2011-2007 JEEP Wrangler 2/4 DR 3.8L V6<br /> EVOLUTION COMPETITION SYSTEM - FOR OFF-ROAD USE ONLY: Single - 2.5" Cat-Back System, 2.5" Spout, Ultra Flo Polished Muffler

I did some research on here and found a few examples of people inserting this muffler under the driver side before the axle. Then went outside and looked at my Jeep. Problem is, for my 2 door stock exhaust, there is no section of pipe straight for 20 inches that i could remove and insert this muffler. Anyone done this in a 2 door? Thanks

If you want check out our Facebook page, if you are on there. There is a whole JK album and a lot of it is the system that uses this muffler.

This will give you an idea.
