Duratrac vs KM2

I vote:
They really are a great tire on road. can't wait to see what they do in the snow. I know KM2's are a great tire as well, with good wear and sidewall flex, but they're also expensive, and if you're not going to really use them on the trail, i would go duratrac, and that's what i did and why.

Since you mentioned packed snow and ice as a priority, I say duratracs. I love my km2s but they are by no means great on packed snow or ice. They did great in deep snow (about 2-3ft unplowed). When things got plowed and compacted, I had to use even less skinny peddle and more 4hi/lo.

Go with the good years. I have the km2's and you just have to take it slow on the I've and packed snow stuff...the km2's can get slippery. The GY's have sipping in them that will help with this a lot.

anyone tear out a sidewall on a duratrack in the rocks?
how light are the duratracks in comparrison to a km?
I live in snow country and have thought the duratrack looked like a good plan for my next set of tires...

If u plan on doing rocks I would avoind the duratracs. They are only 2 ply and prob will not hold up in rocks. If u intend to wheel in the rocks, u need to go with a 3 ply sidewall. Again, the duratracs are not for serious off roading, they are fine for DD with weekend mild to moderate trail use a weekend a month or so. If u wheel harder stuff or more often, than go with something more heavy duty.

I'm on my 4th set of KM2s and love them. 40k miles out of a mud tire is pretty good imo. The thing that concerns me about the duratrac is they are only a 2 ply sidewall. I personally don't feel comfortable around the rocks in less than a 3 ply. The KM2s work great down here in AZ, but I'm from CO and if I wanted an aggressive tire and had to concider serious winter driving conditions...I would look at the Cooper Discoverer STT. I have friends back home that swear by them for their any terrain including snow/ice

if you deal with any sort of snow or ice i would go with the duratracs. the km2's arnt bad in the snow or ice, but the duratracs are way way way better.
they are not a hard hard trail tire. but i have done everything from mud to rocks to sand and they have never let me down..

Duratracs have the snowflake symbol on them so they are a winter tire. In Quebec it is law that every vehicle have snow tires on during the winter. These pass as snow tires. They perform pretty damn good on the trails and have not been stuck with these things yet! (knock on wood)

Played in the rocks all weekend with the Duratracs and couldn't be happier. I knew the sidewall was rumored to be weak and I watched for it specifically. Never was a problem and there was extreme sidewall flex a couple of times around sharp rocks without issue.
I was up against Trail Grapplers, KMs, and Bighorns and this tire held its own. I'm convinced, this will be my tire of choice from now on...
