hit 3k miles should I do front to back same side or x-pattern front to back?

Are they directional? I don't think so, the tire will be marked with rotation direction if it is. If not directional then X... also, rotate in your spare if it's a full spare and you'll get 20% more life out of your tires. Rotation pattern for including spare is in Factory manual and probably Google.

Front to back and then cross the back to front tires. I thought I was ambitious rotating every 5k when i change my oil. ..

If you have a matching spare better to rotate it in and out to maximize your investment.
