Duratrac Balancing issue with "equal" - suggestions????
Starting to get annoyed at my balance situation:
Had Duratrac 315/70/17 installed on my 2014 JKU and have a shake between 55-70. Its not a bad shake but its there and noticeable in the steering wheel and floor. I bought rims separate (ATX ravines) and had tires mounted and balanced at a town fair tire in New England. I found out after the fact that they use equal only to balance larger tires.... After first dose of equal I had shake so took it back for rebalance. They told me we can try adding a little more and see how that goes.... Did that - improved shake but still there. I'm thinking to myself that these guys don't really know what they are doing and don't really want them messing with my ride. However, I've called around and the going rate to scrape all that equal out and do a road force balance with weights is around $400 so I'm stuck...... Anybody have any great thoughts I what the best course of action is? Do I take it back to town fair and have them add weights and more bull or do I fork over the dough and have a road force balance, or is there a better option??? Thanks in advance for any advice.....

I did road force balancing when I had 35s and thought it was worth the extra money. I had Goodyear MTRs which some people have complained are hard to balance. When I upgraded to 37s, they were too big for the road force balancing machines so I went with balancing beads. Went with Counteract brand rather than Dynabeads but either are fine. 10 oz baggie of beads was thrown in when the tires were mounted and that's all there was to it. Having the 35s removed and 37s put on cost $100 and they are balanced like a dream. The beads cost $50 on eBay.

I worked in a tire shop for years. I dread Goodyears. None of their models balance easily. It can be done but it usually takes a few tries and tons of weight. I'd take it to another shop and be done with that one. Look for one that specifically advertises Goodyear.

I agree on the equal, I just recently battled vibes with my 37 MTRs. Took five attempts to get the balancing right, finally found a shop that took the time to get it right, they just barely fit on the road force balancer, but it drives great now!
