Default Dumb Question of the Day

Forgive me for asking, but what is the purpose of a stinger bar off the front bumper?

Default Thought

I thought it worked as a guide when approaching an object for these guys that like to rock climb.

It can keep you from flopping the Jeep on the front end when coming down a hill, and if you do flop all the way over it should save the hood.

It's for rock crawling and I've also heard it helps if ya roll it.

Someone just asked that question the other day...weird. One of the responses attached a video of a two door coming down some rocks and ending up on its nose, the stinger kept it from flopping over onto the roof

That's kind of what I thought, but some of them don't look like they'd get the job done. That's why I was wondering.

Thanks to everyone for the replies! Now I know!

If you get a bumper with the stinger welded on and gusseted, like the PSC bumpers, they would probably stop a tumble. But the bolt on cheapos are more for appearance.
