Default Driveshaft problem?

I was checking my driveshafts and I noticed a ring of grease above my front shaft. Idk how long this has been here as this is the first time I have ever checked my driveshafts. I have a 2dr with OME 616s in the front and 618s in the rear. Does this look like the driveshaft needs to be replaced or just excess grease from when the boot was filled.

grease spitting from your cv joint is always a sign that a replacement is in order and soon. once it starts to make a ratcheting sound, you're time will be up. good catch.

Hmm I was afraid of that, has anyone else had an issue on a front driveshaft I thought it was usually the rear that needed to be replaced

most of the premature failures happen on rear 2-door shafts because of the extreme angles it sees after a lift. however, front shafts aren't all that long and yeah, i have seen them fail prematurely as well. factory rear shafts on an unlimted last the longest but, they are also much much longer and do not see as significant an angle even with a taller lift. but, they still fail too.

for the most part, a 1310 u-joint style shaft with replacement yokes is what i would recommend. up front, that's all you will need but, in the rear, you will need adjustable rear upper control arms so that you can set your pinion angle. i personally like coast shafts which you can get at northridge4x4 as they come with spicer u-joints.

What is this ratcheting sound you speak of? Is it a click,click,click.....sound?

the ratching sound i speak of would be the bearing going bad in an rzeppa joint - what the factory shafts have. i saw your other post and see that you already have u-joint style shafts - this would not apply to you.
