Same reason as for replacing a stock bumper with a steel bumper. It's stronger.
I've opted for the 1350 after having seen a 1310 joint break on rocks. (Yes, it was properly installed...)

..... All the lift does in the equation further ruin your geometry and the amount of axle shift you get during articulation .....
4" lift on my 4-dr didn't spoil handling. It improved the break-over angle and allowed more articulation, so the Jeep can do more than it could do with less lift.
