Default Drilling my hardtop

Has anyone drilled there hardtop? Can you tell me how easy or hard and what you use to prevent any leaks. I'm looking to do this for a Fishing rod rack.

ANY INFO AND PICS WOULD BE GREAT.

I know it's been done. MBPR requires you to do it for their roof rack, and I believe Jeep did it for their Overland concept.

Not sure about leaks, but I wouldn't sweat it too much. Some rubber washers out to catch most of them. If you're unsure of your ability to do the job correctly, consider using an automotive upholstery shop that regularly works with fiberglass.

I did it to install my Yakima rack. There's nothing to it. I used silicon in the bolt holes, and I filled up the voids with Great Stuff. There are plenty of threads on drilling the hard top too. Check them out, and then go for it.

All it takes is a drill and a couple wrenches. Not real sure why you would want to pay someone to drill and turn a few nuts and bolts. If you use the rubber washers as suggested you should be fine. Ad some clear silicone to the topbolts and you should be good to go.

There are other fishing rod holder options out there too.
There is a thread on it. All sorts of ideas. interior and exterior. I went interior.

I think this photo shows it, photobucket is blocked form work.

I would say the rubber washer and silicone would be the best way to go as well, but I would suggest siliconing interior and exterior. I use to do installations for roof mounted refrigeration units and we did this for all our trucks. Worth the extra few minutes to have the insurance of no probable leaks.
