Default Drag Link/Tie Rod Ends

I am having some steering wheel vibration around 55mph, so Im thinking that I need to replace my stock drag link/tie rod ends. I have a 3" lift(installed 3 weeks ago) and I am currently running stock wheels and tires. Im going to be purchasing new wheels and tires(33-34") in April, so Im wondering if I should replace the whole drag link with a better drag link(Synergy High steer) and/or the tie rod(Synergy) or just replace the tie rod end or ends? When I installed the lift, I replaced the front track bar bolts with the grade eight bolts and torqued them to 125 ft lbs. I have also watched the videos on death wobble, so I am going to be checking everything out to be sure. Thanks for the info!

Even if your track bar is torqued properly make sure the hole isn't I ovaled out.

sent from the slow lane

Yes. Weld washers in place. Should be a 9/16" bolt (if replaced), so find 1/2" washers that fit and use them (washers typically have lots of slop).

New ball joints fixed my steering wheel vibration at 45-50 MPH. Might check yours.

When I switched to the grade 8 bolts for the track bar, the bolts seemed to fit pretty snug. I will definitely check the ball joints. How hard are ball joints to change(if I have to)? When going to bigger tires, is it a must to go up to a beefier drag link and or tie rod?

Though its not required to upgrade those components you will benefit from replacing them with synergy parts, and get a lot longer life out of them. Especially if you offroad your Jeep.

I posted some pics on FB. Here's the album, with a description of the job with each picture. This is a generic album for Jeep work I'm doing right now, so you'll have to wade through some of that ...

If you wheel, you're going to bend one or the other eventually. I bent my drag link at Disney, then had to drive it all the way home with the steering wheel at 90° off and the ESP manually turned off (else the ESP kept shutting down power thinking that we were in a skid). So, don't need to replace because of tires, but because of eventual damage. No point rushing things. Once you bend something, just be aware of what to do to keep on going. You'll see another JK with the same problem mentioned in this video (James in the video says "tie rod" but I disagreed with him. LOL: Turns out Mark was right, the tie rod was fine but drag link adjustment worked around the problem).

Zoom forward to 4:00 if you're in a hurry ...
