down-sizing 35" to 33" tires worth it?

will run the 35's till spring time, then most likely do the swap, sell the used 35's on craigslist. So maybe i'll re-coup a little bit of $$ back.
I guess now my concern is the 5.13 gears on the 33" duratracs (that are more like 32"?). Ill have to search that up & see what guys have been experiencing.

been talking to a guy on another fourm with 33's and 5.13s, its horrible. revving 4500 rpm on the highway and get like 5-9 mpg. If you go back to 33's goto 4.10s. The extra milage will be worth it.
I almost bought a 3.5" lift and went 35's but I have decieded against it because mine is running so good with 33's.

Have any Jeep buddies with 33s? See if you can swap wheels/tires for a day.
With your gearing I think you'll actually see a negative affect. The 3.8L is a pig.. It will never be a good quick engine regardless the tire size.. I drove 3.6L with 33s and suddently thought damn I should go back to 33s. Then I drove a 3.6L with 36 iroks.. and realized my 3.8 will never be a 3.6

Kojack - that doesn't sound right. maybe 2012? OD off?... diff animal than my PIG of a 2009...
I just searched on this forum & saw a guy with similar set up to mine doing 2700rpm @ 70mph... 5.13's on 33" tires on a 09 w/ 3.8 and OD on will do i think.
im gonna test it out. These 35's (mickey Thompson MTZ's) are taxing the whole car, tired of re-torquing bolts every 3 months & replacing worn/broken sway bar ends etc.... tired of the piggy performance... i think trying 33's will be worth it. Sure as hell not re-gearing again, too expensive.

Just going by what he's saying and he is using 3.8L. I know mine with 33's and 3.73 runs great, and gets decent milage. I went on a road trip the other day and got 12.8L/100km. I was very pleased. That was using BFG AT. When I was running my much heavier coopers I would average 14.4L/100km. I am trying even lighter tires next time. I am going to do my research and get the lightest 33/285 I can find.

What about changing to a 285/75/17? It's a 34", which is prob more like a 33", instead of buying a 33", which is more like a 32".
Size seems to all depend on the tire manufacturer. My 35" Duratracs don't seem as big as some 35" Toyo's I've seen.
Duratrac 315/70/17's are about the lightest 35" tires you can get. A lot of 33's and 34's weigh just as much or even more. At least this was my observation back when I was researching tires.

A lot of good info here.. and I like the tire swap day idea.. I'd be up for this just to see and feel the difference the duratracs have as compared to what we currently have.. I'd wish the tire shops would do this.. sort of try it before you buy it..

I have the same tires on my JKUR. DD + offroading.
It was in for routine service last week, which included checking that everything is right & tight -- and nothing was loose.
It's not the 35" that make you "re-torquing bolts every 3 months & replacing worn/broken sway bar ends etc".
Handling hasn't really suffered by moving from stock to the 35"s (actually 34").
The difference isn't big enough to spoil handling, but it is big enough to improve offroad capabilities.
