Default Does regearing regain overdrive use on the 3.8L

So I'm not sure if I'm missing something or what but all the threads/posts I've read about regearing there is never really any mention of if it resolves the constant in and out of overdrive. So, does it? With just the right tailwind I can maintain 65mph @ 1700 rpm in OD and yield a modest 17mpg. 95% of the time however I'm at 2700rpm and 13mpg's.

Yes, re-gearing will give you overdrive power.

Regearing will raise the engine's rpm in all gears, including overdrive. So, to some extent, it will recover the use of overdrive for you.
The lower the axle ratio you go to, (higher gear ratio number), the less likely it is to keep shifting out of overdrive on the hils.

Also, make sure your tire size is calibrated. This will correct the shift points, and help with this to some extent.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm still debating between 488's or 513's because I sometimes tow a closed 8x10 closed cargo trailer for work. Good to finally know for sure that gearing will help regain the use of overdrive and as a result a few extra mpg's too.

Do both the procal and flashpaq adjust shift points?

I don't know about the flashpaq, but the ProCal doesn't directly adjust shift points. It adjusts shift points indirectly through programming in the correct tire size, so the computer gets correct speed data.

Flashpaq has an optional download you can buy from superchips that allows you to modify your shift points on your own. I don't know anyone who has tried it. I think the folks at superchips are far smarter than most of us when designing tunes so I've never had a need to get fancy with my own adjustments.

Yeah, I've read that but when I visited the site I can't seem to find it there.

What range of rpm can I expect to fall in when in overdrive @ 70mph with 5.13's

According to that gearing chart in the FAQ it should be around 2500 rpm @ 70mph but I'm assuming that's not in overdrive, am I correct?
If so I should be looking at around 1800rpm in overdrive, right?

Not sure of your tire size but mine with 4:10 gears and 35's is around 2400 rpm when running 70 mph in sixth gear. Manual box.
I find in order to get the use of 6th gear I need to be over 2200 rpm or it slows down. Not enough torque to pull it below that rpm.
So - if I added 5:13's I would anticipate I would be running much higher than 2400 rpm at 70 mph.
My 2 cents.
