Do used gears of old jeeps fit?
First off I am a jeep newbie. This is my first jeep a 2012 unlimited sport s. Having loads of fun but now I want to run 35s so I can tackle trails a little easier. I feel like I am getting significantly more scraped up than guys running 35s.
My gears are 3.21 and I think the 4.1 would be perfect for my DD, 10-12 times a year off roader. My question is can I buy used 4.1s from an older jeep like a TJ for my rig? 30 front, 44 rear. I plan on having someone I know do the installation for me for a case of beer. If I were to pay a shop I would probably just buy new 4.56 but since it's free I figure I would get some used ones and 4.1s would be more than adequate especially on smaller dana 30s and the new penstar.
Also motivated to watch and learn from the installation versus a shop. We probably will install lockers and weld gussets all at the same time.
Thanks,

Well if you find someone that will regear your jeep for a case of beer let me know. Usually it's a lot of work and most shops run about 300 to 400 an axle. About using tj gears I don't think it will fit but if you want 4:10's look around for some rubicon pll that up graded and have their 4:10's laying around. I'm planing on changing and have had my 5:13's siting in my house for a year now just looking for The money to install. It's a lot more work then you think.

NJ,
Thanks for the heads up.
I better take another look into regearing complexity. As for finding JK 4.1s, it's hard to find one for the dana 30 used as all the rubis are 44s. Wonder how many people are running 4.1s on the front 30?

Good point on the D30 ya that won't fit. Your better off getting new ones or buy a front and see if any body has rear. And go on from there. Like I said before I bought them no prob not realizing how much it is to instal. I've been lookin at them for over a year now. Keep looking. If I find anything I'll give you a shout

You can buy new 4.10s from Mopar. Used ones out of a Dana 30 are going to be hard to come by and you probably don't want those anyway. I'd find an installer who has experience with the JK gears.

Just got a magazine in the mail that advertised new aftermarket 4.10 from a Alloy. I know nothing about them, but they offered them for the D30 and D44 non Rubicon models.

if i were you i would just go new...the r&p from any other jeep than a jk will not fit, they are a high pinion reverse cut in the front and are a different size than both the old d44 and d30s.
