Off Road Evolution routinely runs $999 regearing specials--parts and labor.

At that price, regearing to 5.38s with an 08 automatic on 35s or larger will be the best modification you could do to your rig.

If your budget is limited, it would be worth running steel wheels and either flat flares with no lift and rear fender trimming or a 2.5" budget boost (coil spacer lift) to be able to run 35s and still prioritize regearing.

I have this same Jeep and specs. Sure, if you have money to burn then regearing is the optimal modification. Instead, get a Procal to reset the speedo and trans shift points, the drive is significantly improved with 35s.

I have a 09 JKUX with 35's, auto, and 5.13 gears. I recently met up with another forum member and swapped half doors for full. He has an 09 too (same color!) with 35's and 3.73 gears so I let him take mine out for a spin to compare. His response was he was going to regear immediately.

He lives a reasonable distance from an experienced shop that will regear, parts and labor, for $999.

At that price, it is worth running steel wheels and a 2.5" BB to be able to allocate $999 for a regear.

"Money to burn" intimates the difference in performance is not equal to the cost. At $999, regearing to 5.38 gears will be the single best performance modification he could make.

But in reality, it has plenty to turn. I think 37's would make me swap gearing.
I'd agree and I have the same lifestyle, although I personally don't describe the 3.6 as having "plenty of power" in any theater at altitude. I would say "just enough". (Guess I'm a bigger junkie)

Mine's a stick but I've also heard guys with automatics are more likely to want to regear?

Spend the money and regear. It's the best thing you can do for your jeep. I ran light 35s on my 2010 auto JKU with 4.10s for 2 months and it was brutal. You can regear later on but take into account regear costs when setting up your jeep to run 35s.

I swapped mine out for 4.88s. Love it but some people say go deeper like 5.13 or 5.38. At minimum on a 3.8, go 4.88. For me, my rig and driving style, 4.88's work great on 35's.

5:13 for 35's sounds wrong

I have 5:13's with 37's and its great for me, but if it were a dd with a 20 minute commute I might have wished I had gone with 4:88's

Matthewd5, do you have the 3.8 or 3.6 engine? I'm planning to go 4.88 with 37's on a 2013 JK. Just want to make sure I'm not driving down the wrong path.

Apologies for the thread hi-jack!
