Default DIY hood lock?

Has anyone made a hood lock that works well and is not too expensive? I am not impressed with the aftermarket locks and the mopar lock is a little pricey. Seems like there are a lot of jeepers out there who could do better.

I ran a wire cable through the hood hook then down and around the lower crossmember. A cheap hardware-store cable U-lock makes and secures a loop, and then lock together both loop ends with a small padlock in front of the radiator.

It takes a little time to secure, but I know it works perfectly, unlike the JK hood lock I bought from a vendor, that doesn't lock !!
