Default Ditched my Treadwrights for Duratracs

So I have been running 33" Treadwrights for a year now, and they definitely served their purpose of a cheap alternative when I HAD to get tires but didn't have a lot of money. Now that I have moved on to a 315-75-16 Duratrac, the difference is night and day! First off, let me say that I put a LOT of miles on my Jeep! I am on the highway a lot, and so first, I wanted something that I could for sure rely on. NOT that I ever had a major problem with the Treadwrights, but the side lugs were starting to peel some, and the road manners were pretty poor. For around town, they do their job, but for a 300-400 miles haul, they were a bit squirrely. The Duratracs seem to track better, ride smoother, and are much mor quiet...

This is one of the first negative comments I have read about this tire and have a couple questions.

Which style of Treadwright were you running?
How many total miles?
How often did you rotate?
What PSI were you running?

Thanks!

Guard dogs... If I remember correctly about 32 psi on my last jeep, and whatever the tpms is set to when I switched them to my 2012. I had them rotated at oil changes, so 3000 with my 08 and 5000 with my 2012... I think I had about 20,000 miles on them. Don't get me wrong, they were a great tire for what they were, but the tread was a bit more aggressive than the duratracs, so road noise and manners were a bit worse. They took a TON of weight to balance, inside and out, which was no bueno on my black wheels. And as I said, the side lugs were coming off. I'm not knocking the Treadwrights, simply stating that the Duratracs ($225 tire compared to $90 tire) are much better. I also went with the Duratracs after I read the JP mag tire roundup, in which the Duratracs got the best all around rating. My Treadwrights were NOT good on ice at all, and ok in the rain... beautiful in the snow. These were the third set of Treadwrights I had owned, so for the price, they can't be beat. But compared to a tire that costs twice as much, they are not nearly as good as their value.

Thanks for answering the questions. Never tried these and don't know anyone local who has them.

I personally run Duratracs too. Incredible tire!!

Default Duratrac vs others

I've never had the pleasure of running Duratrac's.
I have a good friend who runs Treadwrights and loves them.
I have run BFG MT's on everything since I started using them,
with my '84 Camero,(street slicks.)
and all my other vehicles in the past....
MT's on my;
'92 Isuzu Rodeo,
'93 Jeep YJ,
'94 Ford Explorer,
'00 Dodge Dakota,
'04 Dodge Ram Quad Cab,
and if it wasn't for the price I'd get them again for my '12 Jeep JKU.
But at the moment I'm just running the stock Goodyears and keeping
a record of what else my options might be.

I live in the New York State Area and we get a lot of different types
of weather conditions that I've found the BFGs really are able to handle.
Also, All of my tires lasted longer than the vehicles they were on....
except for the '93 YJ...LOL. I'm on my 3rd set for that vehicle.
and the Ram is on it's second set,(it's the Wife's DD.)

jksooner stated that the Duratrac's cost $225....'bout the same for the
BFGs.
I'm able to get about 65K hard street & off-road miles out of the BFGs.

Anyone running something different, I'd like to hear about it.
Be sure to include the price per unit and how they hold up.
Thanks

Wow....I get my Duratracs put on tomorrow and I was REALLY considering Treadwright GaurdDogs.

I also had not really heard bad things about Treadwright, but I think sometimes people are judging them based on their value and price rather than objectively vs other new tires like Duratracs or KM2s, etc.

Your experience makes me glad I made the decision to go with the GYs. Plus the GaurdDogs were going to add significantly more weight in rolling mass.

I'm in FL but I will be making a couple of winter trips each year to western NC in the mountains as my parents just built their retirement home there. Seems the Duratracs will meet my needs.
