Default DIfferntial housing damaged or normal?

Hi guys, another damage question from me unfortunately
Just took my pinion seal off on my Dana 30 and there is a chunk of metal that looks to me missing along side of the bearing race. It almost looks to be an oil pathway but it's rather jagged (it's circled on the top right). Then on the bottom left there another small chunk missing. Can you guys tell me what you think, doesn't look normal to me but I have no idea.
Also, there was no oil slinger in there. Does anyone know maybe for 2012 they didn't have oil slingers? My gears were done at a local shop.

The one on the top right looks correct IIRC. If you look in the housing you should see the channel that feeds that opening. As for the one on the bottom, I don't recall seeing that on the D30 I just opened up however it may be to let the oil drain back into the pumpkin from the bearing?

Thanks again Rick!
I was REALLY worried, but feel better now. Yes there is a channel that feeds it. Just looks so jagged which worried me. Maybe a few of the gear teeth nicked it a bit. I won't worry about it.

Thanks for your help

Yup, upper groove is fine, its the path oil takes when slung off the ring gear up into the pinion cavity. The lower notch it probably fine. I believe my 44 had the same but I can't remeber. It would just allow oil to drain into the cavity for the inner pinion bearing. It will still be held back by the pinion baffle.

I'm surpirsed there was no oil slinger. It's just a simple washer between the yoke and the outer pinion bearing, sometimes with a groove cut in the OD to grab oil a little better. You can get one from the dealer for a few bucks.

Thanks guys. Yes after I took the races out I could clearly see that the upper and lower holes were lubrication pathways. Thanks god
Been a rough month with clutch going and then diff going. Time to mall crawl for a while I guess. Or just spend my time snowmobiling
