I wanted to know the main difference between having a remote solenoid box on top of the winch and one that's built-in. I'm looking at 2 Superwinch winches, the EP9 and EPi9. Same specs. ONLY difference is the solenoid box.
What are the pros and cons of each and what's the main difference?
Thanks.

So there's no difference in terms of being "sealed" when it's built-in to the winch itself and the ones that mount above the winch in it's seperate enclosure?

Actually I believe that the remote solenoid box winch would be easier to replace the solenoids than the built-in one. I could be wrong. BTW I have a Warn 9.5ti winch, with built-in solenoids. It works great for me.

The difference is mounting location.
They make remote solenoids for bumpers that utilize the "hidden winch" design. That way the winch is more compact and will fit inside the bumper, and solenoid can be mounted elsewhere.
If you don't have the "hidden winch" bumper, then it doesn't matter which winch you get.
