Diff skid instal
Yup, that's it.. I'm installing the D30 and D44 Rugged Ridge/Warn diff skids (no not diff covers).
it looks to me like it's pretty straight forward..
1.pull the bolts off the diff
2. leave the stock cover in place
3. position the diff skid
4. use new bolts provided by Rugged Ridge
Is it really that simple? Should I be concerned about the diff cover wanting to come off when I remove the bolts? Maybe I should strap it in place while doing the mod?
What do those bolts get torqued to?
Thanks in advance

I thought it was that simple. They supply you with Torx bolts. They absolutely suck. In my opinion anyway.
It's a lot easier to strip one of those if the Torx socket is not fully seated. Plus, a standard Torx socket didn't fit inside a few of the openings of my Warn cover.
Do yourself a favor like I did...get some standard 5/16" Grade 8 hex bolts, and then you can use a 1/2" socket. Nice and easy.

How many miles do you have on your Jeep??? Just asking b/c you should have seen all the "break-in" metalic dust in mine after 5000 miles. You might as well change the fluid while down there. In this pic you can see the metalic dust on my magnetic drain plug...
Then I wiped it on brown paper so you can see it even better.

17k, just had my diffs done at 15k by the stealership because it was a freebee.
Next round I'll be doing them though. I asked what their normal pricing was... what a ripoff!
$170 .. and they had to use some "special MFG. recommended additive" for my LSD...
As I understand it a good synthetic won't need any additives..
