Dana 30 factory locker??
#11
Got the other 44 for the gears. It had 410 and for the price it was better than buying gears an installing them. This is my wife's daily driver so rock crawling isn't going to happen. We do live on a dirt road that's almost 2 miles long and very steep in places and kinda nasty in the winter.
What brought up the locker with the body shop was a junk yard near by had a rubi front. So I told them about it. When he check on it they wanted $2900. That's way to much. So then he told me about the so called new 30 with a locker.
The ins. Is paying to fix the jeep. So I wanted 410 gears in the new front diff. I'll pay a little extra to get better stuff. Like control arms. I bought after market instead of factory.

I am having a hard time following your post. You do realize if you do not have 4.10s in the rear you MUST regear to 4.10s or if you put it in 4WD you will have BIG problems???!?!?

Haha. Ok. Before the crash. I was planning to regear to 410. So a member here had a complete rear with 410 and a 410 front dana 30 ring gear pinion and carrier for sale. I was getting that. Then came the crash. Bent the front diff and control arms. So insurance is fixing that. That's where the new front diff is coming from. I'm putting the complete rear in to match.
The body shop told me he can get a dana 30 with a locker and 410 new.

Double check this.
There are no selectable lockers anywhere for $300. The closest you are going to come for that price is a lunchbox, which is an automatic locker, not a selectable. No on/off switch. Any time 4wd is engaged, the front axle is locked. Not something I would assume your wife would be comfortable driving with, especially if you get any snow or ice where you live!

Ok yesterday I went by the body shop to see what had been done to the jeep so far and what parts were in. The new front diff is there. Is a 44 for a rubi. Now one more question. Will the dana 30 axles work with the dana44 carrier?

Dana 44 and Dana 30 parts are not interchangeable. That is a d44 front housing. Are you talking about axle shafts?

There are two per side.
D30 - 27sp inner , 32sp outer
d44 - 30sp inner, 32sp outer
You can re-use your 32sp outer shafts, but will need new 30sp inner shafts, and new joints. You can also re-use the brakes/hubs if needed.
And Congrats on the d44 upgrade!!

Ok thanks very much. I snagged a set of 13 rubi shafts on eBay tonite for 225 including shipping. So now were going to have a 44 with locker and 410 gears. All total it's going to be 525 more than a dana 30. So that's not bad. That's where we got a little confused. The axle shafts didn't come with the housing. But thanks for the help.
