Painted mine UT orange, though they look reddish in this photo. Just used a rattle can so I can touch them up as they get used.

I work with 16 ton LAVs in the Marine Corps. There is a STRICT policy within the community that you don't paint shackles because if they start to crack you see them till it's too late. I know the first response is that a JK doesn't weigh anywhere near that much, but I didn't spend that much on my JK to risk a shackle breaking when winching (you'd be surprised how much the weight of a vehicle increases when only mired at axle deep, I'm trying to find a class we use to share)

Had mine powder coated. At $5 a shackle I'm ok with it if they get beat to heck. I am also running the rubber protectors (not sure what else to call them) to prevent them from beating the heck out of the bumper.

Leave them in the recovery bag until you need them. No painting required.

Well 75% of the reason I was going to paint them is that the red plastic things on the hoop part look more orangey/pink, but I too have those rubber rings to keep the shackles from bouncing around

So I think I'll just remove those and go with straight silver

Especially if someone who handles heavy duty military vehicles points out a pretty good reason not to paint them!

Thank you captain and in all sincerity thank you for serving!

That's what I have, with the rings my shackles don't bounce around so I may take off the other pieces
