Cutting off your cat? Emissions tests? Heyo!
#21
The resonators are located after the post-cat O2 sensors. They can come off legally, if you want to get a little throatier. The only trouble I had was when the driveshaft smacked the O2 sensor in its new home before the lift was on. New sensor, and no problems since the lift.
Honestly you're better off just getting a glasspack or scrapping the muffler entirely if noise is your only goal.
FYI-
My part of virginia doesn't have emissions or smog inspections, and many other states and locales don't either. Oh, and the federal "don't f with it rule" only applies to mileage under 80k.

How do I take em off? Can you elaborate on this response a little more? Thanks!

It would be all for sound if you took the cat off. Won't do a damn thing for power. On my '04 Cobra I was making 618 rwhp throught the stock cats, all 4 of them. No cats netted me an additional 3 rwhp and I LOST 13ft/lbs of torque. Magnaflow cats got me 621rwhp and the same tq I was making through the stock cats. Basically don't waste your time with cats on the 3.8l.

SMARTCAR vs the JK
Who gives a crap about emissions. When gas hits $5 per gallon the stampede to " smart cars " will be horriffic. I will then put my 357 to the side of my head and pull the trigger...... But first I will find a traffic jam with a bunch of them and do a " Gravedigger" test. Every time I see one of those abominations, I just want to tip it over on its side. Please bury me in my JEEP !
PS please engage the lockers and crank the tunes for my cruz to heaven.... and put on some Godsmack or Metalica perhaps...

A buddy of mine took the cats off his TJ and he said he gained about 3 mpg better and the sound was defently better. Does anyone think this would be bad for back pressure or anything?
