I think there are O2 sensors in the cats so If you hollow them out you will need mil eliminators to fool the computer into thinking you still have cats. Alot of the mustang people do this.

You can cut off your resonators legally. I did for the RK longarm kit I installed. Makes my magnaflow a little more throaty, but still without drone, not that I'd hear anything over the nitto mud grapplers.

So how did you handle the O2 sensors that are in both cats or is this just the 2010 models. do you get a check engine light now with out the cats?

Our jeeps have 2 pre cat 02 sensors (measures fuel/air coming out of the engine) and 2 post cat 02 sensors (measures what comes out of the cats). So if you remove the cats it will set a check engine light and could effect the way the engine runs. And yes when you get it smogged the tech does do a visual check for all emission components, if he passes you and you get caught it is a MAJOR fine to you, the shop, and the tech will probably lose his smog license.

Peer pressure from the Ricer crowd LOL! (Kust kidding)

Heads up as CT is now looking into spot equipment checks as the emissions system that has been failing for years is not bringing in enough revenue to cover BOTH the EPA's requirements and state D.O.T funds. State and Locals will soon be trained to recognize violations (Remember any and ALL emissions equipment is a FEDERAL offence if tampered with) that have the ability to generate revenue.

I was @ Norwalk DMV a few weeks ago dealing with the Jeep's registration and was talking to an officer there in line and the conversation started when a riced out Civic (Of course) comes flying out onto Rt. 7 loud as hell and he laughed at what is coming down the line as far as catless cars. And he began spilling the beans on the details above.

The resonators are located after the post-cat O2 sensors. They can come off legally, if you want to get a little throatier. The only trouble I had was when the driveshaft smacked the O2 sensor in its new home before the lift was on. New sensor, and no problems since the lift.

Honestly you're better off just getting a glasspack or scrapping the muffler entirely if noise is your only goal.

FYI-

My part of virginia doesn't have emissions or smog inspections, and many other states and locales don't either. Oh, and the federal "don't f with it rule" only applies to mileage under 80k.

Eh I think I'm just going to put a v-12 in instead. That should make the exhaust louder!
