Cutting off your cat? Emissions tests? Heyo!
Hey everyone, my buddy isn't running a cat on his TJ and welded his catback to the downpipe I believe. It sounds sick and he passes emissions tests. Has anyone done this? I have a magnaflow on mine and I want it to be louder and I'd have fun cutting off the cats =]. Has anyone passed emissions tests with this? Get back at me!
thanks!

Anyway, this is from the Connecticut emissions testing web site:
Vehicles will also be visually inspected for the presence of the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter provides a post-combustion control of vehicle emissions. Post-combustion emission control devices clean up the exhaust after the fuel has been burned but before the gases exit the tailpipe. It must be fully intact for your vehicle to be considered for an emissions test.
Removal of or tampering with a catalytic converter is a federal offense. If your vehicle is missing a catalytic converter, it will fail the emissions test.

On a modern computer controlled vehicle, this would cause major long term issues without proper tuning. Besides it is illegal. If you think the cats are plugged up, try Random Technologies. They make high flow cats.

Keep your cat on! for christ sakes... You'll lose a decent amount of low end torque (which is really the only thing the JK has going for it engine wise). If you want a ballsy sound just chop the muffler off.
Cat deletes are generally reserved for civics and V4 imports running small turbos looking for a marginal increase in high RPM HP...not V6 off-road vehicles.
