Custom Back Seats
I am wanting to start a project that converts my back seat into a styled back like the defender 90 (has the seats on the side instead of forward)
Reason I am wanting to do this is because everytime someone wants a ride its a pain for them to get in and out of the drivers or pass side door...would be great to be able to just open the rear and just let them hop in
Anyways i was just wondering if anyone has done this yet?

Coming from the Land Rover scene to the jeep area I know what you're talking about.. but..
Not going to easily happen with a Jeep without some serious modification. Nothing right now exists off the shelf for it... and I doubt it ever will.
Good Luck though, and it would be an awesome solution to the problem.

hmm
that would be a bad idea.. Could probably be done by welding/ bolting some sort of brackets to the floor lengthwise sort of like te stock back seat comes. I definately see a leg space issue. That could probably be staggering the seats. As far as head room, well thats fixed simply by taking you top off

Yea, nobody likes having to cram into the backseats in our JK's, its a major pain in the a$$. I think its a great idea in all but you would no longer be able to put your feet into the little drop down space in front of the tub. The passengers feet will be up on the wheel tub where the seats bracket is now. Your feet will be up so high your knees would be by your ears. Again, I'm not putting your idea down, its just fine and great for kids but not so much adults. If you decide to go another route for the passengers to enter and exit, I may have one. I have some Corbeau(the fixed back)seats. I have them installed and its very easy, and I have 4 little pins that just pull out allowing easy access to the backseats. Thats just if you don't mind having to pull the pins everytime...lol...just a suggestion. The pins are really very simple and it makes it easier to access the backseat because theres not one there...lol

Got pictures of that? I am pretty sure the back seat of jeeps are only made for kids (and groups of scandaly clad college girls to be driving around in sweltering summer heat). i just though of another idea though. What if you installed some sort of bracket that spins so the seat rotates or swivels out toward the back. the sub woofer or wells might get in the way, but you may be able to modify the seat so this works. that was just my brain vomitting an idea out an idea. There may be other issues.

Instead of sideways what about flipping the seats around backwards? Might be an easier fit and fabrication. Head and leg room would not be an issue and you would get the same benefit of easily getting in and out.

the backwards ideal might work too ill think about that
I have found some seats that might work with one on each side, they are really small .............. make a thin mount that goes up on the fender (make it long and going all the way from the rear of the seat to almost the back of the front seats) and bolt them to that mount. Head room would be an issue as would leg room, so I am going to have to do some measurements to see what all is possible

I think TJ rear seats may fit between the wheel wells, making it easier to install a rearward facing seat, but, still.... The leg room would be an issue.
It's kind of a pain to get into the rear seats, but once in, there's plenty of room for 2 normal sized adults. I've had a few people back there without issue.
Just lend them a hand when hopping into and out of the back.... Or, if the top is down, just have them hop over the edge (you can buy one of those tire steps to make it easier...)
